We bring

How a new car key gets made

01

Year, make, model

And the VIN if you have it handy.

02

Cut the blade

From the car’s lock, the VIN, or a key you still have.

03

Program the chip

The tablet pairs the new transponder with the car.

04

Test everything

Start, lock, unlock, trunk. Then we go.

Transponder chips, explained quickly

Most cars since the late ’90s have a tiny chip in the key head. The car won’t start unless it reads that chip, even if the blade turns.

That’s why a hardware store copy might unlock the door but won’t start the engine. We program the chip to your car on site.

Get a spare before you need it

With a key in hand

Copying a working key is the quickest and cheapest key job there is. If you’re down to one, make a second now.

With no key at all

We can still make one from the lock or the VIN but it takes longer and costs more. That’s why a spare is worth it.

Trucks, work vans and older cars

A lot of our car key calls come from contractors and fishermen with trucks that have been on the road a long time. Older trucks often take a plain metal key we can cut right off the door lock. Newer ones have a chip and need programming, and some need a fob with buttons.

Work vans are the same story, the key gets copied and handed around until nobody knows how many are out there. If that’s you we can make fresh keys and, on many models, erase the old ones from the computer so they won’t start the van anymore.

Bring us the year, make and model when you call and we’ll tell you which kind of key it takes and what it costs. We cover all of Flagler, Volusia and Putnam counties from the shop on North Ocean Shore Blvd in Palm Coast.

When the ignition is the problem

Sometimes the key is fine and the ignition isn’t. A key that won’t turn, turns only when you wiggle it, or comes out while the car is running usually means worn wafers in the ignition cylinder. We can repair or replace the cylinder on many cars and cut new keys to match so you’re not stuck with one key for the doors and another for the ignition.

What a car key costs

A copy of a plain key starts at $20 at our shop. When every key is lost, a regular key starts at $150 at your car and a push-to-start key starts at $230. Prices at your car include the $75 trip charge.

The exact price depends on the year, make and model. Look yours up on the price page or call (386) 853-3587.
