Master key systems & IC cores
One key for the owner, a few keys for managers, one door each for staff. We design, key and maintain master key systems and interchangeable cores. Call (386) 853-3587.
- How it works
Master keys and IC cores in plain words
Master keys
Every lock has its own key but there’s one key (or a few levels of keys) that opens a group of them. The owner’s key opens everything, a manager’s key opens their area, staff keys open only their door.
IC cores
Interchangeable cores pop out with a control key. When someone leaves with a key, you swap the core in seconds instead of rekeying the whole lock. The photo is an IC core lock from one of those systems.
Who uses them
Offices
Different access for different staff.
Churches and schools
Lots of doors, lots of keyholders.
Rental properties
Owner key opens every unit.
Retail
Managers open up, staff open the back.
How a system gets set up
Walk the building
We list every door and who needs to get in where.
Design the levels
Owner, managers, staff and any special doors.
Key the locks
Each cylinder pinned to the plan, cores swapped if IC.
Hand off keys
Keys labeled and a key chart kept on file.
Keeping the system under control
Restricted keys
With a restricted keyway the blanks aren’t sold at hardware stores. Copies come only from us and only for the people you approve, so a key can’t quietly turn into five.
When someone leaves
With IC cores we pop the core out of the lock and swap in a new one in a few seconds, without taking the lock off the door. Your other keys keep working and the lost key stops working. That’s the big reason businesses with lots of staff turnover use them.
- Common questions
Master key questions
Can my current locks be master keyed?
Often yes, if they’re the same keyway. We’ll look and tell you.
Can you keep records of the system?
Yes, we keep a key chart so future changes are quick.
How many doors does it take to need a master system?
There’s no minimum. If more than a couple of people carry keys to different doors, it helps.
