Electronic keypad safe opened by a locksmith

Getting into a safe without wrecking it

A lot of safes open with the right technique, no drilling. Small fire safes and lock boxes often pick open, like the one in the photo.

Bigger safes with combination dials or electronic keypads take more work. If drilling is the only way, it’s done in a spot that can be repaired, and the safe can still be used afterward.

Home safes and business safes

At home

Gun safes, fire safes and small lock boxes. Most lockouts come from dead batteries, forgotten codes or lost keys.

At work

Drop safes, office safes and cabinets. We open them and reset the lock, and can change the code when a manager leaves.

After the safe is open

Once it’s open we can reset the combination, replace the keypad or swap a dead electronic lock for a new one. If the old lock gave out because of age we’ll tell you and if a simple battery change would have fixed it we’ll tell you that too.

Write the new combination down and keep it somewhere away from the safe, a second copy with a family member or in a lockbox at the bank is a good idea. For business safes, give the code to the people who need it and change it when one of them leaves. We cover all of Flagler, Volusia and Putnam counties from the shop on North Ocean Shore Blvd in Palm Coast.

Keeping a gun safe ready

For gun safes the most common call is a keypad that won’t respond. Change the battery once a year even if it still works, and test the backup key so you know where it is and that it turns. If the safe is bolted down in a closet, make sure there’s room to get to the keypad battery door, some models hide it behind the dial or the handle.
